Hello Ouran fans! Welcome to the official site for Music Room 3's scanlations. We are a small community, you could say our group motto is 'by fans, for the fans'. We work on bringing you the latest chapter of Ouran High School Host Club in English from it's Japanese original. It's quite a process to translate, clean the pages, and make it look all pretty for a release, so thanks for bearing with us each month!

Q. How can we contact you about questions/releases/problems/etc etc?
A. You can email us at musicroom3@gmail.com, or catch us on IRC #MusicRoom3@IrcHighway.net. There's also an Ouran fansite forum we all frequent where we actually all met one another, it's at krysyuy.net/forums. The names you see on this site are the ones we use there, so every once in a while you might see us around.
Q. When do the Ouran chapters come out? / When do you release them?
A. The chapters come out in the Japanese magazine LaLa around the 24th of each month. Depending on how much talking and sound effects there are, depends on how quickly we can work on it. Just take a look at our twitter feed on the main page to see what stage we're at. Usually what takes the longest is the cleaning and sometimes typesetting, so once you know the cleaning is done you can expect the chapter to be out soon. :)
Q. Does your twitter feed follow what you do in real time?
Q. Twitter is very helpful to us in keeping you guys updated on our progress as we work on each chapter. But, it doesn't exactly follow us to a T. Here's an example to understand what I mean, we may post something like 'working on cleaning' and then 10 hours later something may be posted 'halfway done cleaning'. It does not exactly mean it took us 10 hours to clean half (although in some cases it is true), but I just wanted to note that we do sleep, eat, and do other life things. So during those 10 hours, who knows what we could be doing. The point of the twitter is just so you guys can know what stage we're at at certain times. :) Just don't depend on it to predict when we'll be done.
Q. What is your process for scanlating the chapter?/What is scanlating?
Q. Scanlating basically means taking the Japanese chapter and turning it into the English one you see released from us. It starts out with a raw of the chapter, if you don't know what raw means, think 'raw meat'. It's the original/purest form before anyone does anything to it. Once we get our hands on the magazine LaLa from Japan we scan in the chapter and the translating starts. While that is getting done, the cleaners are at work editing the pages so that they look all nice and pretty (you should see how the originals look - they are very dusty and grainy hence why we 'clean' them). Once the translation is done, the proofreaders look over it to make sure it makes sense and is in proper English. Once that is done, and the cleaning, then the cleaned pages and translation is sent to the typesetters. And that's when the magic of teamwork begins! The typesetters put all the fancy text you see onto the cleaned pages using the proofread translation. It's a long (but fun) process. If you ever want to try doing this yourself just look up some tutorials and find some good friends. :)
Q. What is your secret to getting such high quality pages?
Q. Haha believe me it's no secret. But to go into detail would be troublesome when there are some awesome tutorials out there. :) Just search on google 'scanlation tutorial' and a bunch of them will pop up.

Q. How many volumes are there for Ouran?A. As of October 28st 2009, there are 15 volumes in Japanese, and 12 in English.
Q. I can't see/hear the music player.
A. You may need to install Quicktime Music Player in order to hear it. It's a free application that plays music and such, rest assured it causes no harm to have and is quite easy to install. Or, your browser could be the problem. As of 7/24 the only browser I have found to not work with the player is Google Chrome. And not only that, but apparently a lot of sidebars show up making the page come out all ugly D:. I suggest using Firefox, or Internet Explorer to view this site. But if you're unsure of what the music player should look like, it should appear like this http://i30.tinypic.com/20z1bq1.png at the bottom of this page. If it still isn't working for you, you can email us about it.
Q. What song is that on the site?
A. The songs change every so often (usually once a month) but above the music player I always put the name of the song. And every song that is put up is from the Ouran anime itself, so if you look for the name of it through one of the CDs you should be able to find it.
Q. Can I join your team?!!
A. Thanks for the offer, but right now I think we're satisfied with just us. Too many people means too many to depend on. But if we ever end up looking for someone for a position, we'll make sure to announce it.

a quick updateHello Ouran fans! Hanging in there? As you know, there is no Ouran chapter this month (otherwise it would have been released by now), so next month it will continue with chapter 75. But don't worry, it'll be out before you know it!
What I really wanted to say, is that we have a raw provider! So now we don't have to go mooching around the internet for raws. The raw provider is actually dreaming0, who is already a part of our group. So super thanks to her for doing this for all of us~ Now that we have that problem out of the way, releases should be done a lot faster (unless other things come up that hinder us).
Now that we have a sure way to get raws, we're trying our best to get the special chapter (omake) that was in LaLa DX back in May. Hopefully we'll have that soon! It was a special starring Hunny and Reiko, something you definitely want to check out! We'll keep our eye out for it and keep you updated~ We'll see you then. (:

There is supposed to be a two page color picture in the beginning of the chapter, sadly we weren't able to get that particular double page. Also we approached the cleaning in a different way. Some sound effects (sfx) are left alone (but still translated), while others are cleaned off completely. We'd love to know your input on it, a poll was put up about it so feel free to vote, or maybe reply to this entry and tell us what you think. Either is possible for us, so don't be afraid to tell us which you think is better. :)
